Area Lakes and Ponds

“Ponds” are not necessarily smaller than “lakes”.  Ponds tend to be spring fed and are “self-contained”, whereas lakes feed into other bodies of water.

BRANDY POND ( BAY OF NAPLES) is 762 acres , 44' deep, and is approximately 1 mile wide and 1 ½ miles long. It is located in Naples and is a connecting waterway between Long Lake, the Songo River and Sebago Lake, providing access to 40 miles of boating. There are two marinas on the lake, as well as the town of Naples boat launch. Fishing includes salmon, brook trout, brown trout and bass.

COFFEE POND is located in Casco, and is 137 Acres, 70 feet deep, about ¼ mile wide and 1 mile long. This spring fed lake has very good water quality and is noted for its' excellent fishing, particularly a unique strain of Sunapee trout and brook trout. Great for fly fishing enthusiasts. 

COLCORD POND lies in Porter, near the New Hampshire boarder. It's located in a quiet area "off the beaten track". The lake has a maximum depth of 105 feet and contains 304 acres. It is stocked with salmon, togue, and brook trout. It's a lovely, sparsely populated lake. 

CRESCENT LAKE is located in the towns of Raymond and Casco, encompasses 716 acres, is about ½ mile wide and 2 ½ miles long, with a maximum depth of 54'. It has a thriving population of both smallmouth and largemouth bass and other warm water game fish, as well as some salmon. Both towns have town beaches and boat launches on the lake; Raymond on Rt. 85 and Casco off Rt. 11.

HANCOCK POND is 858 acres with a maximum depth of 59' and is located in the towns of Sebago and Denmark. The pond has a public boat launch, and is noted for it's serene beauty.

HIGHLAND LAKE (#1) is located in the towns of Falmouth and Windham, an easy Portland commute. At 640 acres (approx. 2 ½ miles long by ½ mile wide), with a maximum depth of 67', it's the largest lake close to the city, is popular for year round residents and has very good fishing.

HIGHLAND LAKE (#2) is also located in Cumberland County (confusing!), but is located in the town of Bridgton, where there is a very nice town beach and park with lovely mountain views. It's a good sized lake of 1,401 acres, with a maximum depth of 50 feet. 

INGALLS POND (also known as Fosters Pond) lies in Bridgton, is 28' deep and has an area of 141 acres. It is a peaceful, clean pond, and many sportsmen consider it to be one of the best small mouth bass lakes in the area. No motor boats over 10 H.P are allowed on the pond.

LITTLE SEBAGO LAKE lies just to the East of Big Sebago lake in the towns of Windham and Gray. It does not connect to Big Sebago. It encompasses 1898 acres, is approximately 5 ½ miles long and 1 mile at its widest point, and is 52' deep. It has three distinct bays, and many islands and coves. It is noted for its bass and brown trout fishing. It's conveniently located so that it's about a half hour's drive to Portland.

LONG LAKE is the Northernmost lake in the Long, Brandy, Sebago chain of lakes. It is 11 miles long, 1 mile wide, has a maximum depth of 59' and covers 4867 acres in the towns of Naples, Bridgton and Harrison. It is a very popular lake with tourists, and at the southern tip in Naples, you can find abundant summertime activities such as cruising on the Songo River Queen paddleboat, seaplane rides, boat and jet ski rentals, parasailing rides and marinas. At the northern tip in Harrison, there is another marina and a town boat launch. Bridgton's town launch is located off the Kansas Road at Salmon Point, where you can find, guess what…..Salmon!.

MOOSE POND lies in Bridgton and Denmark. It has three distinct basins; lower, middle and upper. The entire lake is about 8 miles in length and less than ½ mile wide.

The lower basin is in Denmark, is 388 acres with a maximum depth of 33', and provides fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass, pickerel and white perch.

The middle basin is the largest part, 941 acres, with a depth of 70', and has excellent water quality for coldwater fishing such as salmon and lake trout. This is a very picturesque section of the lake and provides a "Photo Op" for tourists traveling west over the Rt. 302 causeway with the Shawnee Peak ski area providing a dramatic backdrop to the lake. This section is good for water skiing and a public boat launch is located at the causeway.

The upper basin is 365 acres, 31' deep and has excellent habitat for largemouth bass and pickerel.

NORWAY LAKE is located in Norway, in Oxford County, and accessed off Rt. 117.  It is a long, narrow lake, almost 5 miles long and about a half-mile wide, 922 acres, with a maximum depth of 48 ft.  Town beach and marina are off Rt. 117.

PANTHER POND lies in the town of Raymond and encompasses 1439 acres, is about 2 ½ miles long and 1¼ miles wide and 68' deep at maximum. It has easy access to Route 302, and is a very nice lake for all kinds of family recreation.

PARKER POND is in Casco Village, and appears to be the lower end of Pleasant lake, A small, quiet lake, it is 166 acres, and is somewhat shallow ( about 19' deep), is about 1 ½ miles long and 1/3 mile wide. There is a large culvert which runs under the causeway which separates Pleasant lake and Parker Pond, and this is boatable with a small boat or canoe.

PLEASANT LAKE is a lovely spring fed lake, 1077 acres, 4 miles in length and ½ mile wide, with a maximum depth of 62'. It is found in the rural towns of Casco and Otisfield, with a town beach at either end and a public boat launch at the southern end in Casco Village. It is home to a handful of boys' and girls' camps, and is fairly undeveloped. The lake abuts a state fishery in Casco village, and is stocked with salmon and lake trout. Numerous other fish species are found in this lake also.

PETTENGILL POND is located entirely in Windham, making it another practical location for a Portland commute. It covers 36 acres, with a maximum depth of 29 feet, and offers great swimming and winter skating.

RAYMOND POND is located in Raymond and is 346 acres with a maximum depth of 42', has a public boat launch off the Raymond Hill Road. It's a small, quiet pond tucked away into the countryside. 

SAND POND in Norway is a very nice lake that has a maximum depth of 56 feet and is 141 acres in area. The lake has small mouth bass and pickerel for fishing. Very good water quality. 

SEBAGO LAKE is the largest lake in this area and the second largest in the State of Maine. It has excellent water quality and is the source of the city of Portland's drinking water; therefore, the southernmost part of the lake is restricted from any boating and swimming. The lake covers 28,771 acres, approximately 8 miles wide by 10 miles long, and is located in six towns, Windham, Standish, Sebago, Naples, Casco and Raymond. It's maximum depth of 316 feet.

The lake is known as the home of the Maine state record land-locked salmon. It is an excellent fishing lake for many kinds of fish including trout, bass any many other types. There is a winter ice fishing tournament for hearty souls!

Long Lake, Brandy Pond and the Songo River all flow into Sebago and provide a 40 mile length of continuous waterway for all kinds of water recreation. Because of its size, many large boats can be found on the waterway, but there are places that are calmer such as coves and basins, which allow quieter kinds of activity such as canoeing and kayaking.

There is a state park located on Sebago Lake in the town of Casco, just of Routes 302 and 114. There is also an interesting and historic hand operated locks system, which still operates to this day on the Songo River, which flows into Sebago. There are many diverse areas to this large lake, such as Sebago Basin, Harmons Beach, Wards Cove, North Sebago Shores, Thompson's Point, Sebago Inlet, Kettle Cove, the Dingley Islands and Jordan Bay. There is a 8 mile long peninsula, known as the Raymond Cape, which juts into Sebago. From this road, there is access to a ferry, which operates from May to October and services Frye Island, a large, seasonally populated island with golf courses, beaches, and a restaurant.

THOMAS POND affords easy access for commuters to Portland because of it's location just off Rt. 302 in South Casco and Raymond. It encompasses 442 acres, and is 1 mile at it's widest point and 64' deep. It has good populations of smallmouth bass for nice summer fishing and brown trout for spring fishing. There is a public boat launch off of Rt. 302.

THOMPSON LAKE is situated in four towns; Casco, Otisfield, Poland and Oxford. The lake is 4426 acres, 11 miles in length and has a maximum depth of 121'. It is a pristine, spring fed lake and is known for it's peacefulness, great water quality and very good fishing for salmon, lake trout (togue) and bass, as well as many other species of fish. The lake has it's own environmental association, the Thompson Lake Environmental Association, to help maintain the pristine quality of the lake. It provides a wonderful place for sailing, canoeing, water skiing and fishing. There is a small marina at the southern tip of the lake in Casco.

TRICKEY POND is located entirely in the town of Naples, and is a wonderful sandy bottomed, quiet pond, noted for its excellent salmon fishing, and has recently been stocked with rainbow trout There is public access off of Rt. 114. It is about 1 ½ miles long and 1/3 mile wide, is 311 acres with a maximum depth of 57 feet.

WOODS POND lies in Bridgton, and is a lovely pond with very good water quality. There is a town beach and a boat launch at the southern end off Rt. 117. The lake is about 442 acres, with a maximum depth of 29 feet, and is approximately two miles long and ½ mile wide.
